THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has issued a stern warning to individuals possessing undocumented firearms: surrender them to authorities immediately or face arrest.
NCRPO Officer-in-Charge PBGen. Christopher Abrahano announced that police units across Metro Manila have been instructed to step up intelligence operations, visual presence, checkpoints, and law enforcement actions aimed at curbing gun-related crimes.
“Our message to individuals who are illegally possessing loose firearms is simple—surrender these firearms to the proper authorities and do not wait until police operations lead to your arrest,” Abrahano said.
“Possessing an undocumented or illegally acquired firearm is a violation of the law and poses a serious threat to public safety,” Abrahano added.
The directive follows recent enforcement actions in the region.
On Sept. 21, 2026, a 31-year-old man was arrested during an Oplan Sita operation in Las Piñas City after allegedly resisting police and being found with an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.
In a separate incident in Taguig City, another suspect was taken into custody for brandishing an illegal gun.
Abrahano emphasized that law enforcement will maintain a strong presence in communities, particularly in areas flagged by intelligence reports.
“We will not allow the possession of firearms without the proper documentation to become normalized,” he added. “A single incident can potentially result in the loss of life.”
The NCRPO initiative aligns with concerns raised by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla regarding the estimated two million loose firearms circulating nationwide.
DILG data indicates that 98% of gun-related crimes in the country are committed using unregistered or illegal weapons.
The NCRPO chief reiterated that police will work alongside local government units, barangay officials, and community stakeholders to track down illegal arms and prevent potential violent crimes.
