A 28-year-old motorcyclist was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly evading a police checkpoint, crashing into another vehicle, and driving without proper licensing or safety gear in Barangay Old Balara.
Personnel from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Batasan Station (PS 6) were conducting an anti-criminality checkpoint along Samat Road corner Luzon Avenue at around 12:33 AM on September 23 when they signaled the suspect to pull over.
Officers noted that the rider was not wearing a helmet and was dressed in shorts and slippers, which violates traffic safety protocols.
Rather than stopping, the suspect reportedly sped off to bypass the checkpoint. His escape attempt was short-lived, however, as he collided with another motorcycle shortly down the road, causing him to crash onto the pavement.
Police officers immediately secured the scene and took him into custody.
Following a background check, authorities discovered the suspect had no valid driver’s license and could not produce proof of ownership or registration for the motorcycle he was operating.
The suspect was issued traffic citations and will face formal criminal charges before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
The charges include violations of Republic Act 10054 (Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009), Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code), and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority).
QCPD Acting District Director PBGen. Christopher Olazo reiterated the importance of motorist compliance following the arrest, emphasizing that police checkpoints are vital for maintaining public safety, road discipline, and peace across the city.
