TWO household workers were arrested in separate police operations in Quezon City and Manila after allegedly stealing cash and luxury items with a combined value of ₱4.69 million, exploiting the access granted to them by their employers.
In Barangay Nayong Kanluran, Quezon City, operatives of Masambong Police Station 2 arrested a 19-year-old stay-in housemaid after her employer reported the loss of six luxury watches, 43 pieces of assorted jewelry, and ₱500,000 in cash.
The stolen property is valued at approximately ₱4.5 million. The complainant discovered the missing items at around 3:30 PM.
Upon initial questioning, the suspect claimed she had been tricked into handing the valuables to an unidentified man in a ride-hailing vehicle.
She alleged that fraudsters convinced her that her employer was involved in a car accident and urgently required funds for emergency medical care.
Local police and barangay officials immediately apprehended the housemaid following the report.
Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and pursuing leads to identify possible accomplices and recover the missing property.
Background checks via CIRAS, e-Rogue, and e-Warrant revealed no prior criminal record for the suspect.
In a separate incident at around 11:35 PM in Tondo, Manila, Jose Abad Santos Police Station 7 operatives arrested a 28-year-old male caretaker along C.J. Planas Street.
Police responded to a call from the employer after a witness caught the caretaker stealing cash from a cabinet inside the victim’s bedroom.
Recovered from the suspect was ₱20,000, while an additional ₱170,000 intended for utility payments remains missing.
The suspect underwent mandatory medical examination before being turned over to the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.
Both suspects are facing charges of Qualified Theft under Article 310 of the Revised Penal Code.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Officer-in-Charge PBGEN Christopher N. Abrahano condemned the betrayals, emphasizing that access to a household requires strict trust.
Abrahano assured the public that law enforcement will trace all leads, recover the unrecovered assets, and ensure full legal accountability for all individuals involved in both cases.
