THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has called on delivery courier companies and riders across Metro Manila to exercise heightened vigilance against criminal syndicates attempting to exploit legitimate delivery services to transport illegal drugs and contraband.
NCRPO Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano urged courier operators to strictly enforce company security protocols, train personnel to spot red flags, and immediately report suspicious packages to law enforcement authorities.
“We are reminding all courier companies and delivery personnel: be vigilant. Do not allow your legitimate business to be unknowingly used as a tool by criminal syndicates in transporting illegal drugs or other contraband,” Abrahano said, noting that syndicates frequently conceal illicit substances inside ordinary-looking parcels to evade detection.
The reminder comes in the wake of a recent incident on September 18 in Barangay Parang, Marikina City, where two motorcycle delivery riders alerted a police officer after suspecting a parcel handed to them for delivery.
Upon inspection, police recovered various illegal drugs valued at approximately ₱150,000.
The NCRPO commended the swift action of the two riders, highlighting their alertness as an example of how public cooperation aids anti-narcotics operations.
Abrahano reiterated that police forces will continue strengthening coordination with logistics firms and stakeholders to close potential avenues for drug trafficking in the region.
“Criminal syndicates will always look for ways to exploit legitimate businesses. We will not allow our courier and delivery systems to become a convenient channel for their illegal activities,” Abrahano said.
“Remain alert, follow established procedures, and immediately report anything suspicious. Your vigilance can help prevent a criminal operation and protect the public,” Abrahano added.
