JOINT law enforcement operations in Barangay Sipat resulted in the seizure of 150 noncompliant foam mattresses valued at ₱700,000 and the arrest of a warehouse operator on September 10.
The joint enforcement action was executed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Bulacan Provincial Field Unit, alongside representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and local territorial police, under directives from Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. Authorities arrested a female suspect during the raid after she was allegedly caught selling and distributing noncompliant consumer items.
Inspection of the seized inventory revealed widespread noncompliance with mandatory product standards and consumer labeling regulations mandated by Republic Act No. 7394, also known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
Under Section 77 of RA 7394, all consumer products offered for sale must explicitly detail mandatory product information, including the registered manufacturer or importer details, country of origin, date of manufacture, and raw material composition.
Authorities noted these trace-back mechanisms are critical to establish legal accountability if product use leads to illness, injury, or safety hazards.
PNP Chief Nartatez reaffirmed that regulatory compliance is strictly enforced to maintain public safety and consumer welfare.
“Businesses must understand that compliance with consumer protection laws is not optional. The PNP will take action when violations put the public at risk and undermine established standards,” Nartatez stated. “Every consumer has the right to safe and reliable products.”
The arrested suspect remains in custody and faces formal charges for violating consumer protection statutes, while the confiscated merchandise was impounded by authorities for proper disposition.
