AVIATION security personnel intercepted a live magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition at Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport, leading to the arrest of a 59-year-old male passenger bound for Manila.
The illegal items were detected by airport X-ray equipment inside the suspect’s backpack during routine screening at the Central Security Screening Checkpoint Area.
Security personnel immediately conducted a physical inspection, confirming the presence of a caliber .45 magazine loaded with 30 live rounds.
Upon questioning, the passenger failed to present valid permits or legal documentation authorizing the possession and transport of the firearm accessories and ammunition.
Officers from the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP) promptly took the suspect into custody for violating Republic Act No. 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The confiscated magazine and live rounds were secured and turned over to designated PNP officers for proper disposition, while the suspect remains held for inquest proceedings and legal action.
“This interception demonstrates the vigilance and dedication of our Aviation Security personnel in preventing prohibited items from entering our airports,” said PBGEN Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr., Director of PNP AVSEGROUP.
“We will continue to intensify our security measures to ensure the safety of every passenger and the traveling public,” added Bartolome.
