THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) issued a stern warning urging the public to exercise caution against financial scams and deceptive schemes, particularly those exploiting personal relationships and emotional trust to extort money.
The advisory follows a recent successful entrapment operation along Seaside Boulevard in Pasay City, where police operatives arrested two individuals accused of operating a fraudulent scheme that demanded cash under the guise of traditional courtship customs.
NCRPO Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano emphasized that fraudsters frequently adapt their tactics to manipulate victims through promises, fabricated emergencies, or romantic appeals.
“Scammers will use different stories and different approaches to gain your trust and eventually take your money,” Abrahano stated. “We are reminding the public not to easily give money to someone simply because of promises, emotional appeals, or a relationship that has not been sufficiently verified.”
Authorities cautioned the public to remain vigilant when interacting with individuals met online or acquaintances who suddenly request funds, passwords, or personal financial details.
Abrahano noted that financial recovery becomes significantly harder once money transfers are completed, making verification essential.
“Deception can take many forms,” Abrahano added. “It can happen through online transactions, investment offers, fake identities, romantic relationships, or even personal requests for money. Do not allow trust to override caution.”
The NCRPO chief urged victims of fraudulent activities to overcome hesitation or embarrassment and report these crimes promptly, noting that perpetrator networks rely on victim silence to continue operating.
Furthermore, the command reaffirmed its commitment to boosting intelligence gathering, police visibility, and enforcement operations against fraudulent networks across Metro Manila.
Members of the public who encounter suspicious demands, fraudulent activities, or related emergencies are encouraged to report incidents immediately through the Unified 911 Emergency Hotline or by visiting their local police station for immediate assistance.
