OFFICERS from the 102nd Maneuver Company have reinforced the Philippine National Police’s commitment to compassionate service through a pair of recent community-focused initiatives in the province.
In Barangay Conception, Cervantes, personnel led by PLT James Figueroa and supervised by PCPT Oliver L. Gaspar partnered with Barangay Chairman Hon. Elmer V. Galula to launch the “Pailaw Project.”
The team installed a solar street light unit in Sitio Upper to improve nighttime visibility, bolster public safety, and enhance security for local residents.
Police officials emphasized that the initiative goes beyond basic infrastructure, symbolizing responsive and community-oriented care.
Meanwhile, a routine commute turned into a timely rescue along the Banaoang Bridge in Santa Maria.
Sir Orlando Batara, a professor at ISPSC–Santa Maria Campus, was stranded with fellow educators after their vehicle suffered a completely flat tire.
PMSg Pepito V. Damasco Jr., who was also heading home, spotted the group, turned his vehicle around, and used his personal portable tire inflator to resolve the issue so the teachers could resume their journey safely.
Expressing deep gratitude, Professor Batara described the officer’s unexpected assistance as a true blessing.
PMSg Damasco deflected the praise, simply reaffirming his duty “to serve and protect”—a sentiment echoing the PNP’s broader effort to build trust and security across Ilocos Sur.
