PHILIPPINE immigration authorities have apprehended a 45-year-old American fugitive wanted by U.S. law enforcement following an operation in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on August 11.
Agents from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), alongside local police, maritime authorities, and U.S. law enforcement partners, arrested Jason Michael Hill at Purok St. John, Barangay Calindagan.
Hill is wanted in the United States for parole violation stemming from an underlying dangerous drugs charge, pursuant to an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Sacramento County Superior Court in California.
Bureau records revealed that Hill entered the Philippines in March 2023 as a tourist and was currently overstaying, prompting a derogatory record labeling him an undesirable alien and fugitive from justice.
Following the arrest, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado issued a stern warning against foreign nationals seeking to evade foreign judicial processes in the country, emphasizing that local authorities will actively track down and deport foreign fugitives.
Hill remains in BI custody pending deportation and immigration proceedings.
