A technical team from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Directorate for Engineering Services (DES) conducted a four-day site inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects at the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) from August 27 to 30, 2026.
Led by DES Chief C/SSUPT Raul P. Levita, the inspection forms part of a nationwide evaluation of capital outlay infrastructure projects across various operating prisons and penal farms.
Upon arrival, the DES inspection team met with LRP Chief of General Services C/INSP Maximo R. Marcos II before receiving a status briefing from General Services Section (GSS) personnel.
The briefing outlined the progress, logistical challenges, and technical specifications of key developments inside the compound, specifically the Design and Build of BuCor Facility (Lot 3) and the repair and maintenance of dilapidated dormitories for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
Following the briefing, engineering personnel inspected the construction sites to validate whether ongoing works align with approved architectural plans, engineering standards, and contractual requirements.
During the physical evaluation, the team issued technical recommendations and directed contractors to strictly follow project specifications to guarantee structural quality and safety.
BuCor officials emphasized that completing these facility upgrades is critical to easing chronic overcrowding within the prison.
Once finished, the new and rehabilitated structures are expected to expand living space, improve facility functionality, and foster a more secure and humane environment for inmates undergoing rehabilitation.
