THE Eastern Police District (EPD) registered a notable drop in total crime volume along with a seven percent boost in crime-solution efficiency during the first two weeks under its new District Director, PBGen. Roman C. Arugay.
According to official EPD records, crime incidents across the district decreased to an average of 236 from September 7 to 20, down from 251 incidents during the preceding two-week period (August 24 to September 6).
Over the same timeline, the district’s Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) improved from 90 percent to 97 percent.
The initial gains are attributed to heightened police visibility, focused law enforcement operations, and enhanced coordination across Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, and San Juan.
High-profile achievements during PBGen. Arugay’s opening fortnight include the safe rescue of a hostage and the arrest of a suspect in Mandaluyong City on September 16.
Mandaluyong officers also utilized CCTV backtracking technology to apprehend three robbery suspects and recover stolen property.
Anti-illegal drug efforts yielded major results, with 101 separate operations leading to the arrest of 120 suspects.
Authorities seized over ₱1.54 million worth of illicit substances, including 204.82 grams of suspected shabu, 803 grams of marijuana, and 28 grams of Kush.
In other key enforcement areas:
- Illegal Gambling: 58 operations resulted in 74 arrests and ₱15,402 in confiscated bet money.
- Loose Firearms: Seven operations led to seven arrests and the recovery of eight firearms (one voluntarily surrendered).
- Wanted Persons: Manhunt operations netted 7 top most wanted persons, 20 most wanted persons, and 91 other wanted persons.
- Local Ordinances: Supporting the DILG’s “Safer Cities” initiative, EPD recorded 16,061 enforcement actions, issuing warnings and processing minor ordinance violators to maintain public order.
PBGen. Arugay commended the joint work of the PaMaMariSan police stations, the District Mobile Force Battalion, and local leadership.
“Since I assumed the post on September 7, our personnel have remained committed to preventing crime and protecting our communities,” PBGen. Arugay stated, emphasizing that the district will continue to expand operations, leverage surveillance technology, and strengthen community partnerships.
