OPERATIVES of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, the 45-year-old sister and former business manager of actress Kim Chiu, on Sunday afternoon, September 20, 2026.
Chiu, listed as the station-level Top 6 most wanted person of Kamuning Police Station 10, was intercepted around 4:06 PM along Saint Francis Street in Barangay Wack-Wack, Mandaluyong City.
The arrest was executed by virtue of a warrant issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 84 for 124 counts of qualified theft under Article 310 of the Revised Penal Code.
The court set the recommended bail at ₱5,838,000.
The criminal charges stem from a legal complaint filed by Kim Chiu, who discovered “serious financial discrepancies” in her business assets following an internal audit of her company, House of Little Bunny Philippines Inc.
The alleged discrepancies involve approximately ₱44.4 million.
Prior to taking legal action, the actress and her legal counsel, LEAPLAW, attempted to resolve the matter internally through multiple meetings before bringing the case to the Office of the City Prosecutor, which found sufficient grounds to indict the older Chiu.
Upon her apprehension, officers informed Chiu of her constitutional rights in Filipino and documented the procedure using an authorized recording device. She invoked her right to remain silent in the absence of counsel.
NCRPO Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano stated that the operation was part of the Philippine National Police’s intelligence-led enforcement targeting high-impact fugitives.
“Qualified theft is a calculated abuse of trust, and the law will not tolerate those who believe their deceit can outrun accountability,” Abrahano said, emphasizing that no amount of influence or evasion can shield a fugitive from the courts.
Lakam Chiu, who has denied the allegations, is currently held at the Police Station 10 custodial facility in Kamuning pending the issuance of a formal court commitment order.
