THE Taguig City Police Station has issued a statement defending its intervention during a morning demonstration in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), stating that the rally was conducted without a permit and caused significant disruption to traffic and local businesses.
According to law enforcement, police officers attempted to negotiate with protest leaders to voluntarily clear the area, but the organizers refused to engage.
The confrontation escalated as protesters reportedly hurled profanity at officers, resulting in injuries to several personnel performing control operations.
“The police aim to maintain a balance between the right to freedom of expression and the rights of other citizens—including workers, residents, motorists, and business owners—to ensure order and safety for everyone,” the station stated, emphasizing that officers exercised maximum tolerance despite the tension.
While acknowledging the public’s right to peaceful assembly, local authorities reiterated that public gatherings must adhere to legal guidelines and take place in designated freedom parks to minimize disruption in major commercial districts like BGC.
