PERSONNEL from the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) Batangas served an outstanding warrant of arrest on a detainee facing a carnapping charge on September 4, 2026.
The accused was already in police custody in Batangas City for a separate offense when officers conducted a routine verification of his records.
During the background check, authorities discovered an active warrant issued on March 26, 2025, by Branch 101 of the Regional Trial Court in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.
The warrant stems from Criminal Case No. 25-7167-SRCL for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10883, also known as the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. Bail was set at ₱300,000.
Officers formally served the warrant after informing the accused of the cause of his arrest and reading his constitutional rights, including his Miranda Rights and protections under the Anti-Torture Law, in a language he understood.
Police documented the procedure using an alternative recording device.
Police Brigadier General Joyce Patrick B. Sangalang, Acting Director of the PNP-HPG, praised the PHPT Batangas team for their thoroughness.
“The proper verification and service of court-issued warrants are essential to effective law enforcement,” Sangalang said.
“The HPG will continue to strengthen its coordination and information verification efforts to ensure that wanted persons are appropriately accounted for, while strictly observing due process and the constitutional rights of every individual,” Sanggalang added.
