OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Regional Field Unit 6 arrested two suspects and confiscated four unlicensed firearms, along with a fragmentation grenade, during separate operations in Iloilo and Capiz from September 2 to 3, 2026.
The raids were conducted under “OPLAN Paglalansag Omega,” the police force’s nationwide campaign to curb illegal firearms in line with the peace and order directives of PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr.
The first operation occurred on September 2 at approximately 4:06 AM in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, Iloilo.
A joint team comprising the CIDG RFU 6 Special Operations Team, the CIDG Iloilo Provincial and City Field Units, and local police elements executed a search warrant targeting a male suspect.
The operation resulted in his immediate arrest and the recovery of three unlicensed firearms: a .45-caliber pistol, a .38-caliber revolver, and a homemade 12-gauge shotgun, along with corresponding magazines and live ammunition.
The following day, September 3, at around 4:02 PM, the CIDG Capiz Provincial Field Unit, alongside intelligence units and local police, conducted a targeted buy-bust operation in Barangay Banica, Roxas City, Capiz.
Authorities apprehended another male suspect who was caught in possession of an unregistered .45-caliber pistol, a fragmentation grenade, a magazine, and live rounds.
Neither suspect was able to present valid permits or licenses to own or carry firearms. Verification confirmed that none of the seized weapons were registered with the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).
Both men face charges for violating Republic Act No. 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The CIDG leadership commended Police Colonel Eufronio L. Obong Jr., Regional Chief of CIDG RFU 6, and Police Major Andre Marie A. Angeles of the Capiz Field Unit for the operations.
Official statements emphasized that taking illicit weapons off the streets directly prevents violent gun crimes and reinforces public safety across the region.
