BUREAU of Fire Protection (BFP) Officer-in-Charge FCSUPT Wilberto Rico Neil A. Kwan Tiu met with key members of the Philippine Senate to push for the bureau’s proposed FY 2027 budgetary requirements, focusing heavily on expanding firefighter personnel across the country.
During courtesy visits held at the Senate in Pasay City, Kwan Tiu met with Senate Finance Committee Chairman Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, along with Senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Raffy Tulfo, and Sherwin Gatchalian.
The BFP chief sought legislative backing for additional personnel funding to address nationwide staffing shortages and improve the country’s firefighter-to-population ratio.
Kwan Tiu underscored that bolstering the workforce is crucial for speeding up response times and improving fire protection, rescue, and emergency services in local communities.
The legislative lobbying forms part of the bureau’s ongoing modernization initiatives under Republic Act No. 11589, or the BFP Modernization Act.
Following his Senate engagements, Kwan Tiu received Quezon Province Governor Angelina “Helen” D.L. Tan at the BFP National Headquarters.
The two officials discussed strategies to enhance regional fire protection, emergency response capabilities, and local BFP operations across Quezon Province through closer coordination between the provincial government and national fire authorities.
