LOCAL police arrested a 21-year-old man on Monday following the gruesome killing of a 69-year-old property caretaker in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City, Rizal.
Authorities identified the victim as Wilfredo, 69, a resident of Zone 7A, Sitio Igiban. The suspect was named as Angelo, 21, living in the same neighborhood.
According to the Antipolo Component City Police Station (CCPS), the grim discovery was made at around 9:00 AM on October 19, 2026, after police received a report at approximately 2:40 PM.
Responding officers arrived at the scene to find the victim’s lifeless body in an advanced state of decomposition, bearing apparent slash wounds on the neck and stomach.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim lived alone while looking after the property.
Prior to the murder, the two had engaged in several heated altercations.
Investigators noted that disputes sparked after the suspect grew irritated when the victim washed his feet at a community water well, and later when the victim caught the suspect picking rambutan fruits from the managed property.
During these arguments, the suspect allegedly issued death threats against the elderly caretaker, warning him to stay away.
A crucial break in the case came when a local witness went to the Barangay Hall of Cupang on October 18 to log an incident report.
The witness told authorities that the suspect had visited their home and confessed, stating: “OK NA, TINAPOS KO NA SIYA. GINILITAN KO SA LEEG AT SA TIYAN.”
Armed with this information, law enforcement swiftly tracked down and apprehended the suspect, apprising him of his constitutional rights.
He is currently detained at the Antipolo CCPS Custodial Facility pending the filing of appropriate formal charges.
Meanwhile, the Rizal Provincial Forensic Unit (SOCO) was tapped to conduct a thorough technical investigation and process the crime scene for physical evidence.
