A delivery rider’s sharp instincts led to the recovery of suspected shabu valued at approximately ₱68,000 after he turned a suspicious parcel over to the San Juan City Police Station on Friday morning, October 16, 2026.
The 49-year-old Lalamove rider, accompanied by personnel from the District Traffic Enforcement Unit (DTEU), brought the package to the station located along Santolan Road, Barangay Corazon de Jesus, at around 10:00 A.M.
According to police reports, the rider had picked up a small box wrapped in black bubble wrap and secured with red tape from a fast-food chain in San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal, at approximately 8:34 A.M.
The parcel was booked through a Lalamove account for delivery to a recipient in Bacoor, Cavite.
However, the rider grew uneasy about the contents of the package while en route to the destination.
Spotting DTEU officers manning a fixed post along Santolan Road corner Ortigas in Barangay Greenhills, he immediately stopped to seek their assistance and present the item.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered two heat-sealed, transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
The contraband weighed roughly 10 grams, including its packaging.
The rider and traffic officers promptly brought the evidence to the Station Drug Enforcement Section for proper documentation.
Eastern Police District (EPD) District Director Police Brigadier General Roman C Arugay commended the rider for his swift action, emphasizing the vital role of community cooperation in law enforcement.
“The vigilance and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the rider serve as a reminder that every member of the community can contribute to public safety,” PBGen Arugay stated, reiterating the EPD’s commitment to fighting illegal drugs.
The seized substances were slated for laboratory examination at the EPD Forensic Unit.
Meanwhile, investigators are coordinating with police units in Rodriguez, Rizal, and Cavite to unmask the individual behind the booking and track down the intended recipient.
