THE Southern Police District (SPD) has mobilized security teams and free transportation services across southern Metro Manila to assist commuters affected by a three-day transport strike taking place from September 28 to 30, 2026.
Organized by transport groups MANIBELA and PISTON, the strike stems from ongoing global oil price hikes that have strained the livelihoods of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators.
Under the leadership of District Director Police Brigadier General Rodel A. Pastor, local police stations have been instructed to coordinate closely with local government units (LGUs) and transport authorities to maintain public order and maintain traffic flow.
Officers from the District Mobile Force Battalion (DMFB) and local stations will deploy across high-density commuter hubs to monitor key routes and handle security concerns.
To help stranded passengers, the SPD will operate Libreng Sakay (free ride) vehicles in strategic locations where transportation options are expected to be severely limited.
“The SPD is committed to ensuring the safety and orderly conduct of the transport strike while providing assistance to commuters who may be affected,” Pastor said, urging the public to cooperate with deployed personnel and seek assistance from officers on duty as needed.
