A 24-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning after police officers on foot patrol caught him handling an unlicensed firearm along a street in Barangay 187, Caloocan City.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 AM on September 10 in Barrio San Lazaro.
According to the Northern Police District (NPD), patrolling officers spotted the suspect holding a handgun, repeatedly manipulating it, and peering into its cylinder.
When the suspect noticed the approaching officers, he attempted to run, but police quickly pursued, restrained, and took him into custody.
Officers recovered a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver loaded with three live rounds.
The weapon bore no serial number, and the suspect was unable to present any license, permit, or legal authority to carry the firearm or ammunition.
The suspect is facing formal charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Investigators are preparing a request for firearm verification with the Firearms and Explosives Office–Regional Civil Security Unit (FEO-RCSU) to trace the origin and registration status of the weapon.
