THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) underscored the critical role of rapid emergency dispatch after prompt interventions via the Unified 911 system recently prevented significant property damage and threats to public safety across multiple regions.
In Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, firefighters arrived within three minutes of a Unified 911 alert to extinguish a commercial blaze in Barangay 21, preventing injuries and deaths.
Similarly, the Sorsogon City Fire Station delivered a rapid response to a roadside eatery fire in Guinlajon, Sorsogon.
In Metro Manila, Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel apprehended a suspected shoplifter in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City, arriving just two minutes after the emergency call was placed.
DILG officials noted that since the launch of Unified 911 in September 2025, the Emergency 911 National Call Center has managed nearly 14 million calls, demonstrating the growing reliance on the centralized response network.
To complement swift emergency response, the DILG and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are pushing nationwide commercial preparedness through the Emergency Response Plan for Business (ERPB) under the Obligasyon sa Bayan, Ligtas na Pamayanan (OLP) 2026 Masterplan.
The mandate requires businesses with at least five employees to establish an ERPB and designate a Fire Safety Marshal to oversee safety protocols. To date, 19,870 businesses have instituted these plans.
DILG representatives reiterated that proactive community and corporate preparedness remains the primary defense against disasters, urging continued public collaboration and responsible usage of the Unified 911 emergency line.
