QUICK thinking and teamwork among off-duty and responding police officers led to the arrest of a 48-year-old e-trike driver after he allegedly caused a public disturbance, brandished a loaded firearm, and resisted arrest along Quezon corner Herbosa Streets in Tondo, Manila, on October 21, 2026.

The incident unfolded at approximately 1:00 PM near a local store in Barangay 112.

According to police reports, Police Master Sergeant Artemio S. Saguros Jr., an off-duty operative from the Northern Police District (NPD), was riding his motorcycle through the area when he noticed the suspect shouting at the top of his lungs and aggressively challenging people.

When PMSg Saguros calmly approached the individual to inquire about the commotion, the suspect—later identified as 48-year-old alias “Norman”—grew increasingly agitated.

He reportedly slapped the officer’s hand away, drew a firearm, and pointed it directly at him.

Maintaining tactical distance, the off-duty officer attempted to pacify the suspect.

Seizing an opportune moment, Saguros lunged from behind to disarm him.

Another off-duty officer passing by, Patrolman Rhonnie C. Reyes of the Caloocan City Police Station, witnessed the struggle and immediately pulled over to assist.
