THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has placed its units across Metro Manila on heightened alert to monitor potential public demonstrations and lightning rallies stemming from ongoing developments in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
NCRPO Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano instructed all police commanders to closely evaluate local security conditions and maintain operational readiness to handle spontaneous public assemblies.
While emphasizing the need for proactive security, Abrahano stressed that law enforcement must balance public safety with the constitutional protection of free expression.
“Our responsibility is to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order while respecting the people’s constitutional right to peaceful assembly and expression. I expect all our units to remain vigilant, prepared, and capable of responding to any situation with discipline and professionalism,” Abrahano stated.
In addition to operational preparedness, the NCRPO chief issued a stern reminder regarding political neutrality.
He underscored that police personnel must remain strictly non-partisan, warning that personal political views must never interfere with official duties.
“As police officers, we serve the Filipino people regardless of political affiliation. We must remain neutral, uphold the rule of law, and perform our duties fairly, professionally, and without bias. Our role is not to take sides in political issues but to protect the public and ensure that the law is observed,” he stressed.
To manage potential crowd movements effectively, district commanders were directed to ensure strategic personnel deployment, maintain clear communication lines, and coordinate closely with local authorities.
Furthermore, responding officers have been explicitly instructed to exercise maximum tolerance during any demonstrations, avoid unnecessary confrontations, and employ only lawful, proportionate measures if intervention becomes necessary.
The NCRPO reiterated its commitment to safeguarding communities and preserving peace throughout the metropolis while upholding civil liberties and professional impartiality.
