THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) inspected 65 establishments selling vape products across multiple regions on October 7, 2026, marking a major escalation in its nationwide campaign against illicit vapor products and tax violations.
The coordinated Tax Compliance Verification Drive (TCVD) spanned five revenue regions: Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, LaQueMar (Laguna, Quezon, Marinduque), the Negros Island Region, and Cagayan de Oro City.
The simultaneous operations led to the issuance of 18 apprehension slips and the documentation of 19 distinct violations.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin R. Mendoza emphasized that the multi-region drive reflects the bureau’s firm commitment to safeguarding government revenues, promoting fair market competition, and holding non-compliant businesses accountable.
“We warned, and we acted. The nationwide inspections send a clear message that the illegal trade of vape products will not be tolerated,” Mendoza stated.
“We will continue to hold violators accountable while protecting legitimate businesses and ensuring that everyone meets their tax obligations,” Mendoza reiterated.
The October 7 sweep is a key component of the BIR’s ongoing, broader campaign targeting illicit tobacco and vapor goods.
Looking ahead, the bureau announced plans to ramp up intelligence-driven inspections and monitoring activities, particularly as commercial activity builds up heading into the holiday season.
In light of these operations, the BIR has strongly urged all merchants and distributors in the vape industry to strictly adhere to existing tax laws and regulations, noting that responsible compliance remains vital to securing public funds and sustaining a level playing field for businesses.
