THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has ordered all five police districts in Metro Manila to strengthen their partnerships with local communities and ramp up security measures for barangay officials and peacekeepers.
NCRPO Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano issued the directive to ensure that barangay workers can perform their duties free from intimidation, harassment, or violence.
Under the new directive, police station commanders are required to maintain open and regular communication with barangay leaders, swiftly assess reports of threats, and coordinate appropriate security interventions based on verified information.
Furthermore, police units must establish clear, accessible reporting channels for barangay personnel—including barangay tanods who face direct risks while maintaining grassroots peace and order or assisting in law enforcement operations.
All reported incidents must be thoroughly documented and investigated.
This initiative reinforces the call of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. for tighter police-community collaboration.
Barangay officials serve as vital frontline partners in governance and public safety, making their protection a priority for law enforcement.
“Barangay officials and workers are our partners in keeping communities safe. They should be able to perform their responsibilities without fear of threats or violence,” PBGen. Abrahano stated.
He added that commanders must take security concerns seriously, act promptly on credible reports, and implement preventive measures to stop threats from escalating into actual violence.
Police districts have also been instructed to collaborate with local government units to evaluate recurring security concerns and recommend effective, legally sound interventions, ensuring that those who serve the public can do so safely and securely.
