QUICK-acting police officers in Mandaluyong City foiled a street robbery early Friday morning, resulting in the arrest of an adult suspect and the rescue of a 14-year-old child in conflict with the law (CICL).
The incident unfolded at approximately 1:40 A.M. on October 16, 2026, along Shaw Boulevard corner Kalentong, in Barangay Daang Bakal.
A 43-year-old resident was walking in front of the China Bank Kalentong Branch when two individuals on a Honda Click motorcycle intercepted him.
According to police reports, the motorcycle passenger—later identified as the 14-year-old minor—dismounted, approached the victim, and threatened to stab him while keeping a hand hidden inside his clothing.
The suspects forcibly took the victim’s bag before fleeing, prompting the complainant to run toward Haig Street for help.
Fortunately, personnel from the Mandaluyong City Police Station were conducting routine police visibility operations nearby near a local convenience store.
Spotting the distressed victim, the officers immediately gave chase, successfully cornering the suspects and recovering the stolen belongings along with the motorcycle and a screwdriver used in the crime.
Eastern Police District (EPD) District Director Police Brigadier General Roman C Arugay lauded the swift apprehension, highlighting the critical role of proactive law enforcement.
“This incident underscores how effective police visibility, coupled with immediate and decisive action, can make a difference in protecting lives and preventing further harm,” PBGen Arugay said, noting that the operation aligns with the NCRPO’s “prepare, prevent, respond” operational pillars.
Following their arrest, both suspects were taken to the Mandaluyong City Medical Center for standard medical clearances.
The 14-year-old CICL was subsequently turned over to the City Department of Social Welfare and Development for proper counseling and custody evaluation under juvenile laws.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old adult suspect, a personal driver from Manila, was detained at the police station pending inquest proceedings at the City Prosecutor’s Office.
